What we do
Policy
EHAA develops independent, evidence-based policy positions to support effective action on alcohol across Europe. Through a clinical and public health perspective, the Alliance publishes joint statements, policy briefs, and calls to action that translate scientific evidence into practical recommendations for decision-makers. EHAA works to promote alignment with WHO guidance and advocates for comprehensive alcohol policies that reduce harm, protect the public interest, and prioritise health and equity.
Advocacy & engagement
EHAA provides a coordinated health voice in European policy processes. The Alliance engages with EU institutions, international organisations, and national authorities, contributes expert input to consultations and legislative discussions, and mobilises its members around shared priorities. Through this engagement, EHAA works to strengthen alcohol policy across Europe and ensure that health perspectives are clearly represented in policy debates.
Clinical leadership & expertise
EHAA brings together a broad range of clinical expertise to synthesise, communicate, and defend the scientific evidence on alcohol-related harm. The Alliance promotes consensus across health disciplines and works to challenge misleading health claims, helping ensure that public debate and policymaking are grounded in robust, independent science.
Public awareness & communication
EHAA develops and disseminates accurate, science-based information on alcohol and health. Through coordinated communication and outreach activities, the Alliance raises awareness of alcohol-related harms, counters misinformation, and supports informed dialogue among policymakers, health professionals, and the public.
Capacity building & collaboration
EHAA fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange, and joint initiatives among its members. The Alliance helps ensure that health professionals share a strong understanding of the evidence on alcohol-related harm and strengthens capacity for evidence-informed clinical practice, including prevention, training, and the use of screening and brief interventions. It also enhances members’ collective ability to engage in advocacy and policy processes, supporting more coordinated action to reduce alcohol-related harm across Europe.
